Berkeley Center for the Study of Religion research, programs and activities are made possible largely through the generosity of the Henry Luce Foundation,  the Division of Arts and Humanities, the Division of Social Sciences, and individual donors.

Now in its tenth year, the Berkeley Center for the Study of Religion is recognized for driving scholarly and public engagement in new and fresh directions. The Center employs an interdisciplinary approach to explore the religious underpinnings of a wide range of topics crucial to understanding and solving today’s global challenges: politics, ethics, healthcare, and tolerance. Comprising a diverse student body and faculty representing dozens of ethnicities, languages, and religious traditions, Berkeley is a unique and unparalleled place for this work.

Since 2021, The Center has offered a Designated Emphasis in the Study of Religion (DESR) for graduate students. In addition to building on our existing program, we are seeking funding to successfully grow the Designated Emphasis to include timely, comprehensive course offerings and financial support for our students.

BCSR’s efforts have played a meaningful role in fostering critical dialogues for the university and beyond. We look forward to continuing this collaborative journey of exploration with our students, faculty and the Berkeley community.
