The Asian Pacific American Religions Research Initiative (APARRI) is the largest and longest running interdisciplinary conference series in the United States addressing issues of religion and race in Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Since 1999, APARRI gatherings have provided opportunities for scholars and community leaders involved in work on Asian American and Pacific Islander religion to share research, exchange ideas, and build collaborative relationships.
As they gather at UC Berkeley, the site where the Asian American movement emerged in the late 1960s, they invite participants to reflect upon their radical past as they envision radical futures in Asian Pacific American religions and communities. What revolutionary hopes and dreams do they have? How can they break out of conventional ways of thinking and imagine new worlds or possibilities? What is – or should be – the future of Asian Pacific American religious studies?

The conference will take place at UC Berkeley, June 20-22, 2023.
The submission deadline is March 31, 2023.
For works-in-progress workshops and panels with discussants, they request that full drafts be submitted by June 1, 2023. Only conference registrants will have access to these pre-circulated conference papers.
The selection committee will review submissions and notify presenters by April 21, 2023.
APARRI is a scholarly community advancing the interdisciplinary study of Asian Pacific Americans and their religions. They offer opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and workshopping works-in-progress.
